2012 Golf Schedule Announced

STANDISH, ME – The Saint Joseph's College 2012 golf schedule has been released.

The Monks will compete in nine events this coming fall, starting with a dual match versus University of Southern Maine at the Gorham Country Club on Friday, August 31st.

St. Joe's then participates in the Bowdoin Invitational at the Brunswick Golf Club on Saturday, September 8th and Sunday, September 9th before traveling to Maine Farmington for the UMF Invitational at Sunday Rivier Golf Club on September 13th.

Saint Joseph's hosts the 10th Annual John Queenan Memorial Tournament at Point Sebago Golf Resort on Tuesday, September 18th. The tournament is hosted by St. Joe's on an annual basis in memory of John Queenan, a 2003 graduate of Bow High School who died tragically in an automobile accident just prior to the beginning of his freshman year at Saint Joseph's.

The Monks travel to Sable Oaks Golf Course in South Portland, Maine 10 days later to compete in the Southern Maine Cup. Played on an annual basis, the Southern Maine Cup features pairs of golfers playing six holes of best ball, followed by six holes of scramble format, and finally six holes of alternate shot golf.

Up next is a trip to the Arundel Country Club where the Royal Blue will participate in the UNE Invitational on October 1st. Regular-season play concludes with an appearance in the Southern Maine Fall Classic, which takes place on October 7th and 8th at Sable Oaks.

The 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship will be hosted by Anna Maria College and is set to take place at the Blackstone National Golf Club in Sutton, Massachusetts on October 20th and 21st. The winner of the annual tournament receives an automatic NCAA DIII Championship berth.

The 2012 campaign comes to a close following the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship, which takes place on October 28th and 29th at the Captains' Golf Club in Brewster, Massachusetts.

Saint Joseph's hosted the 2011 GNAC Championship at the Gorham Country Club and placed sixth overall under the guidance of ninth-year Head Coach Jamie Smyth '92.
