Swimming Recruiting Class of 2021 Announced

STANDISH, Maine – Head Coach Jared Felker is pleased to announce the men's and women's swimming Class of 2021.

Coach Felker, who is entering his second year at the helm for the Monks, brings in his first recruiting class, which features four women and three men. The newcomers figure to add ability and depth to a team that returns 12 individuals - eight women and four men - and looks to help the team improve upon the Monks' finishes in last year's GNAC and NEISDA Championships.

Men:

Joey Christian - Scarborough, Maine

Stroke: Freestyle - 50, 100, 200 and 500

High School: Scarborough

Comments: Team Captain, fought for times with no club training, set goal of breaking two minutes in 200 free.

Personal: Son of Kenneth Christian and Randi Kirshbaum and brother of Edie and Maxwell Christian…Star Wars enthusiast…Lifeguard…seeking a major in Education.

Coach's Comment:  Joey is a versatile swimmer who adds depth at both our Sprint and Middle distances.  His presence will be immediately felt on the 200 free/ 400 free/ 800 free relays.

 

Caleb Levine - Portland, Maine

Stroke/Event: 200 IM, 200 Free, 100 Free, 100 Fly

High School: Waynflete High School

Comments: Captain of Waynflete Swim Team junior and senior Years…Finished in second place in the 100 fly at 2015 and 2017 Southwestern's, fourth place in the 2016 High School State Meet, seventh in the 100 Fly at the 2017 High School State Meet.

Personal: Son of Vilean Taggersell and Robert Levine…Grew up in Portland, Maine.  

Coach's Comment:  Caleb will be a great addition to the team.  Training along Captain Stephen Quinlan, they will lead the charge in the Fly and IM events.  Caleb will see some action on the 200 and 400 Medley relays.

 

Mason Scully – Sanford, Maine

Stroke/Event: Sprinting Freestyle

High School: Sanford

Comments: Participated in swimming for three years…Placed 15th in the 50 free at States and won the Campbell Cup at Sanford HS for athletic and academic achievement.

Coach's Comment:  Mason is our top incoming sprinter.  With his raw speed he will be part of an emerging sprint group.  Mason will focus on the 50 and 100 freestyles as well as the 200 freestyle and 200 Medley relay

 

Women:

Rose Baillie – Cape Elizabeth, Maine

Stroke/Event: 50/100/200 breaststroke, 50 free, and 200 IM

High School/Club: Cape Elizabeth HS/ Coastal Maine Aquatics

Coach's Comment: Rose is a tremendously talented breaststroker and sprinter.  With top eight times for both the GNAC and NEISDA coming out of high school.  Her impact will be immediate in individual events and relays.

 

Jasmine Dort – Essex, Mass.

Stroke/Event: 200 Free, 500 Free, and 1000 Free

High School/Club: Manchester High School

Comments: Four-year varsity swimmer at Manchester High School…Earned the 2016 Sportsmanship Award…Was a 2017 Mass. Sectional Qualifier…Named as a team captain and was honored with the Unsung Hero Award as a senior.

Personal: Daughter of Richard Dort, Jr. and Danielle Dort…Has a sister, Ashely.

Coach's Comment: Jasmine is going to be a great addition to the Monks.  With the loss of Lauren Halvorsen, she will help Alexis Coiley and Alli LaFerriere round out our Distance Group.

 

Allison J. LaFerriere – Gorham, Maine

Stroke/Event: 500 free, 1000 free, 1650 free

High School/Club: Gorham/Westbrook Seals

Comments: Zones Qualifier in 2013, 2014 and 2015…Second place in 1650 free and 1000 free at Maine State Meet in 2014…Second place in 1650 free at Maine State Meet in 2015…Earned All-State and All-Conference honors as a sophomore…Third place in 500 free and 200 free at 2015 High School State Meet…Two-time Sebago Challenge Open Water Swim winner.

Personal: Daughter of Leon and Carla LaFerriere…Has one brother…Majoring in Nursing.

Coach's Comment: An outstanding middle distance and distance swimmer she will be an impact swimmer in the GNAC.  She will come in as one of the most experienced swimmers on the team.  She will focus on the 200/500/1000/1650 freestyle as well as the 200/400/800 freestyle relays.

 

Madison Lapierre - Dover, N.H.

Stroke/Event: 50 free and 100 free

High School: Dover

Comments: State swimmer for the 50 free in year 2016/2017…Her team came in second place both years…Selected as a team captain year 2017. 

Personal: Daughter of Eric and Diana Lapierre, one sister Gabby Lapierre.

Coach's Comment: Madison is a great addition to the Monks' sprint group.  A strong and powerful swimmer, she will add depth to the 50/100/200 Freestyles as well as the 200/400 freestyle relays.
