PAXTON, MA – Freshman forward Doe Leckie (Naples, Maine) netted a hat trick and classmate Elizabeth Calnan (Westport, Mass.) scored twice to help Saint Joseph's (5-2-2, 4-1-2 GNAC) defeat Anna Maria College (0-12, 0-7 GNAC), 8-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer contest on Saturday afternoon.
Jennifer Keaney (Scituate, Mass.) netted a goal and an assist while Katherine Chambers '13 (Hampden, Maine) and Ashley Beaulieu '13 (Durham, Maine) added a goal apiece in the lopsided victory.
Saint Joseph's outshot the AMCATS by a whopping 24-0 margin in the first half but found the back of the net just twice over the opening 45 minutes of play. Chambers opened the scoring with a breakaway goal at the 18:43 mark and Leckie beat Anna Maria netminder Amanda Hevy (North Brookfield, Mass.) with a beautiful chip shot just over 18 minutes later.
St. Joe's continued to pressure the hosts' defense in the second stanza when the Royal Blue broke the game open with six goals. Keaney lifted the visitors to a 3-0 advantage when she capitalized on a 1 v 1 with the AMC keeper in the 54th minute and the Monks scored a cluster of markers late in the half to run away with the win.
Leckie scored her second goal of the afternoon off a free kick in the 71st minute and Calnan scored her first of the day with a chip shot just 30 seconds later. Leckie completed the hat trick performance with a tally at the 77:06 mark, Calnan scored her second off a Kelsea Marchand '14 (Boscawen, N.H.) dish at the 83:15 mark, and Beaulieu closed out the scoring with her second goal of the season in the 87th minute.
Hevy was busy in goal for the hosts as the senior co-captain made 22 saves on the day. SJC keeper Jaci Lorenzen '14 (Windham, Maine) did not face a shot in her third shutout victory of the season.
Saint Joseph's recorded a team single-game record 51 shots – with 30 on goal - and held a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks on the afternoon.
The Monks and AMCATS, a new member of the GNAC this fall, had not met on the pitch before this afternoon. St. Joe's has not allowed a goal in 374 minutes and 37 seconds of play with four straight shutout victories. The team has not recorded four consecutive shutouts since the 2008 campaign.
St. Joe's plays at Emmanuel College (7-3-1, 3-3-1 GNAC) on Tuesday at 7:00 PM, while Anna Maria travels to Emerson College (4-5-1, 3-3-1) on Wednesday for a 5:30 PM kickoff.
