BOSTON, Mass. – A select group from the Saint Joseph's College women's and men's track & field teams competed at the Suffolk Ice Breaker on Saturday at The TRACK at New Balance, gaining valuable experience against a large field on the banked 200-meter surface.
The day was highlighted by three women's school records. Freshman
Olivea Miller (Livermore Falls, Maine) broke the 200-meter record in 27.22, junior
Breya Whitman (Auburn, Maine) set a new high jump record at 1.55m (5' 1"), and the 4x400-meter relay of
Ava Smart (South Portland, Maine),
Audrey Bilodeau (Lewiston, Maine),
Emma Jones (Poland, Maine), and
Amber Pendleton (Warren, Maine) established a new program best of 4:20.48.
"It was well worth the long weekend as our athletes took full advantage of back-to-back meets. It was great to see more women's records rewritten, with three more falling today. We saw real grit and competitive spirit out there, and that mindset will be essential as we close out the season," said Head Coach Mike Burleson.
"I'm really proud of this group," said Associate Head Coach Troy Hendricks. "It was a long weekend, but they showed up locked in and hungry to improve every time they stepped on the track. Watching our younger athletes and veterans work together to rewrite the record book and raise the bar for this program says a lot about who they are and where we're headed."
