WINTHROP, Mass. — The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) has announced its weekly awards, naming Saint Joseph's College of Maine freshman Madeline Barron (Kennebunk, Maine) the GNAC Women's Swimming Rookie of the Week.
On Friday, the Monks faced Gordon College in a head-to-head meet, where Barron competed in four events and earned a podium finish in each. She captured first place in the 50 freestyle with a personal-best time of 27.77 seconds. Barron also helped lead the 400 freestyle relay team to a first-place finish, swimming the lead-off leg with a team-best split of 1:02.02. Individually, she added a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle (2:23.25) and a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.13).
The honor marks the first of Barron's career and makes her the first Saint Joseph's swimmer to earn the award since Berkley Hutchins (Springfield, Vt.) received the recognition on January 15, 2024.
Barron and the Monks return to action on Friday, November 6, when they travel to Regis College for a 6:00 PM meet.
