WATERVILLE, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College club baseball team improved to 4-0 with a pair of decisive victories at Colby College on Sunday. The Monks won the opener, 14-0, before completing the sweep with an 18-1 victory in the second game.
GAME ONE: SAINT JOSEPH'S 14, COLBY 0
Saint Joseph's scored twice in the first inning, three times in the second and nine runs in the third to secure the three-inning victory.
Gavin Ross tripled and drove in three runs, while Valentino Melissinos doubled and knocked in two. Eli Cormier went 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI, and Finn Knowles added a triple, an RBI and two runs scored.
David Franzoni allowed one hit and struck out five over three scoreless innings.
GAME TWO: SAINT JOSEPH'S 18, COLBY 1
The Monks carried their offensive momentum into the second game, scoring eight runs in the first inning, three in the second and seven in the third.
Miles Brown went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, five RBI and three runs scored. Melissinos added two hits, including a double, with four RBI, while Cormier reached base four times, scored twice and drove in two runs. Bodie Bartram tripled and plated two, and Ross added another triple.
Franzoni worked a scoreless first inning before Kyle Notenboom allowed one hit and struck out seven over the final three innings.
