Christopher Willer was named Director of Athletics & Recreation at Saint Joseph’s College in May 2025. A two-time SJC graduate, Willer has been a member of the College’s faculty since 2017, serving as an assistant professor in Sport and Exercise Science. He has taught numerous academic courses, overseen internships and student teaching, and helped launch the College’s coaching minor. In 2025, he was honored with the Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award.
A native of Bingham, Maine, Willer graduated cum laude in 2004 with a B.S. in physical education and earned his M.S. in educational leadership in 2015. As a student-athlete, he competed in both basketball and soccer for the Monks, winning a Maine Athletic Conference title in 2002 with the men's basketball program under the leadership of SJC Hall of Fame coach Rick Simonds.
Before returning to SJC, Willer spent 13 years as a K–8 educator in RSU #16, serving in various teaching and administrative roles—including five years as athletic director and a term as interim principal at Minot Consolidated School.
Willer’s coaching résumé spans over two decades and includes roles at both the high school and collegiate levels. Highlights include leading Poland Regional High School’s boys basketball team to three postseason appearances and serving as an assistant coach for the SJC men’s basketball program during its 2009 GNAC championship and NCAA tournament run.
He officially began his role as Director of Athletics & Recreation on May 14, 2025.
