Overview:
Don Flanagan was named head coach of the Saint Joseph’s College men’s and women’s golf programs in July 2023 and quickly helped the Monks remain among the top programs in the GNAC. In his first two seasons, Saint Joseph’s placed fourth at the 2023 GNAC Championship and finished as conference runner-up in 2024, while several Monks earned All-Conference and major award honors.
2025:
Saint Joseph's finished fifth at the GNAC Championship, with freshman Jason Curran placing eighth to lead three Monks among the tournament's top 20. The Monks also tied for 17th at the NEIGA Championship, improving by 11 strokes in the final round while posting the program's lowest round of the fall season. Freshman Finn Manning made an immediate impact, earning GNAC Player and Rookie of the Week honors after his collegiate debut to become just the third player in program history to receive both awards in the same week.
In the program's second varsity season, the women's team fielded its first full scoring lineup and placed fifth at the John Queenan Memorial Tournament. Reese Beaudoin led the Monks throughout the fall before pacing the team with a 24th-place finish at the NEIGA Championship, where Saint Joseph's closed the season with a ninth-place finish.
2024:
Saint Joseph's finished as GNAC runner-up in 2024, placing two golfers among the conference's top five as Drew Mathieu (4th) and Braden Camire (5th) earned First Team All-GNAC honors. Mathieu also claimed medalist honors at the Husky Classic en route to GNAC Golfer of the Week recognition, while Kyle Bowlan earned GNAC Rookie of the Week accolades.
The women's program enjoyed a historic first full varsity season as Reese Beaudoin captured three individual tournament titles, including medalist honors in the program's first official varsity event, while establishing multiple school records. Reese and Averi Beaudoin also teamed to win the USM Cup before representing Saint Joseph's at the NEIGA Championship.
2023:
In his first season, Flanagan guided the Monks to a fourth-place finish at the GNAC Championship, where freshman Braden Camire earned GNAC Co-Rookie of the Year and First Team All-GNAC honors after tying for fifth individually. Saint Joseph's also improved by 11 strokes in the final round of the NEIGA Championship to finish 20th.
Flanagan also helped launch the Saint Joseph's women's golf program in 2023, as Averi Beaudoin and Erica Irvin represented the College in the first tournament in program history.
Previously:
Prior to Saint Joseph’s, Flanagan served as head coach of the co-ed varsity golf team at Monmouth Academy, where he led the Mustangs to multiple Maine State Championship appearances and a conference title. He also mentored an individual state champion, several top-five finishers, and two New England Championship qualifiers.
Flanagan also held coaching roles at Monmouth Academy in girls’ basketball, boys’ basketball, and baseball at various levels.
Personal:
Flanagan has a deep connection to Saint Joseph’s through his son, Trevor, a four-year standout who helped the Monks capture consecutive GNAC Championships in 2021 and 2022.
Outside of athletics, Flanagan serves as a Battalion Chief and Paramedic for the Auburn Fire Department and is an instructor for the Maine Fire Service Institute at Southern Maine Community College. A former two-sport athlete at Colby College, he earned associate degrees in Fire Science and Paramedicine from SMCC.
