Standish, Maine - St. Joe's
started off the season with a 1-0 victory over visiting Curry
College (1-1) today. Senior captain Steve Jette
(Richford, VT) scored at 35:44 off the rebound of a free kick.
Both teams were almost even in the first half with
5 shots for Curry and 4 shots for St. Joe's, but a Curry shot off
the goal post in the 32nd minute seemed to provide a much needed
wake up call for the Monks. Junior Harrison Deah
(Monrovia, Liberia) had two of his three shots for St. Joe's early
in the half and junior David Hakes (Whitefield,
NH) added another shot before Jette connected for the goal.
Freshmen Philip Raymond (Harrisville, RI) and
Lane Hubacz (Mapleville, RI) turned in strong
performances for the Monks on defense in their first
intercollegiate contest.
Senior keeper Brian White (Colebrook, NH) had
four saves for the Monks while sophomore Clark Zelazo (Palmer, MA)
had 5 saves for Curry.
The team returns to action on Thursday, 9/8, at 4 PM in a home
contest against Southern Maine.
