Standish, ME - The SJC men's soccer squad posted a
4-1 victory over Becker College today. Co-captain David
Rosquete (Auburn, ME) scored the game-winner off a pass
from senior Harrison Deah (Monrovia, Liberia) with
just over two minutes to go in the first half.
Becker (0-4-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead as junior
Cory Rosenblatt (Newton, MA) took the ball at the top of the box,
dribbled to the right and buried a shot into the left corner.
Monk freshman Doug MacCallum
(Hingham, MA) had two first-half scoring opportunities, but was
stopped by Eagles' goalkeeper sophomore Chris Kirwin (Worcester,
MA) before St. Joe's (2-2) evened the match as sophomore
Lane Hubacz (Mapleville, RI) scored off a pass
from senior Kevin Hageman (Albion, ME) at 37:11.
Rosquete's goal gave the Monks a 2-1 lead going
into the break and the team controlled play in the second half and
extended the lead with back-to-back goals at 57:57 and 59:03.
MacCallum scored his second goal of the season off
a pass from co-captain Stephen Jette (Richford,
VT) and senior David Hakes (Whitefield, NH) netted
a pass from junior Shannon DeShield (Pembroke,
Bermuda).
Freshman Greg Cavanaugh
(Haverhill, MA) had 2 saves in the win and freshman Cory
Smith (Ellsworth, ME) recorded a save in 10 minutes of
play for the Monks. Kirwin and freshman Aaron Fill split time in
net for the Hawks and allowed two goals apiece.
St. Joe's hosts Husson College on Sunday, Sept.
17th at 3:30 PM in a doubleheader with the women.
