Box Score

FARMINGTON, ME - Saint Joseph's College traveled to Farmington to take on the UM-Farmington Beavers in the team's season opener and, despite a comeback bid, fell short 64-61.

The Beavers led 35-30 at halftime and increased the lead to 10 by going up 42-32 early in the second half. The Monks went on a 15-2 run and were led by SO Ray Eatmon (Huntington, NY) and FY Dwight Franklin (Stratford, CT) to a 47-44 lead with 10:28 remaining in the game.

The lead was pushed to four points, but see-sawed between the two teams until a tip-in by the Beavers Sean Fry with 2:52 remaining in the game gave them the lead for good at 54-51. Matt St. John nailed a big 3-pointer and the Beavers were seven for 10 from the charity stripe over the final 1:34 to put away the 64-61 win.

JR Mitch Ouellet (Fort Kent, ME) led the Monks with 13 points and was 3-5 in three-point attempts, while Eatmon finished with 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds. JR R.J. Mattison (Hamden, CT) grabbed four steals for the Monks in the losing effort.

Farmington ran its record to 2-1 and is scheduled to host Thomas College on Nov. 28. The Monks dropped to 0-1 and are scheduled to visit Bowdoin College on Sunday, Nov. 25. Game time is 4:00 PM.
