BABSON PARK, MA - St. Joe's falls to 0-2 on the season after a
5-2 loss to Babson College on Wednesday evening.
Mikayla Call '11 (Portland, ME)
and Jessica Needham '11 (E.
Bridgewater, MA) both notched goals in the losing effort.
Babson opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a goal from Patty
Pytlik '11 (Wellesley, MA) on a breakaway. Senior Shir Castel
(Boston, MA) scored six minutes later off a cross pass from Pytlik
to provide the Beavers with a 2-0 lead.
Babson increased their lead to 3-0 eight minutes later when senior
Jackie Graham (Winchester, MA) scored, but St. Joe's cut the Babson
lead back down to two markers when Mikayla
Call scored in the 33rd minute to make the score
3-1 going into intermission.
Junior Kayla Pomponi (Belmont, MA) scored the fourth goal for the
Beavers in the 57th minute to put her team up 4-1, a score that
remained intact until the 78th minute when Jessica
Needham netted her first goal of the season off a
pass from Call to draw the Lady Monks back to
within two goals.
Castel capped the scoring for the Beavers in the 87th minute with
her second, and the game's final, goal of the match to make the
score 5-2, Babson.
Babson outshot the St. Joe's women by a 20-3 margin. Junior
goalkeeper Katye Mayo (Fairfield,
ME) made six stops in the loss.
St. Joe's will take to the pitch next on Saturday, September 13th
when they play host to GNAC foe Lasell College at 1:00 PM.
