Box Score BOSTON, MA - Saint Joseph's (5-2-1, 5-0-1 GNAC)
topped Emerson College (7-3-1, 6-1-1), 2-1, in a battle of
previously unbeaten GNAC teams on Sunday afternoon.
Katherine Chambers '13 (Hampden,
ME) tallied her second game-winning goal of the season and
Katye Mayo '10 (Fairfield, ME) made 11 saves in
the victory.
Monks forward Jessica
Needham (Jr., East Bridgewater, Mass.) fed
Chambers on a cross from the right side in the
74th minute to provide the Monks with the 2-1 victory.
Emerson scored first in the contest as Lindsay D'Andrea (So.,
Medford, N.J.) found the net on a scramble. D'Andrea shot from the
left to the upper right from five yards out in the 26th minute.
St. Joe's tied the score just before halftime as
Needham took a cross from the right to the top of
the five yard box and drilled the ball into the center of the net
with only 1:05 left in the opening stanza.
Jennifer Keaney '13 (Scituate,
MA) set up the Needham score with a nice pass.
The game was evenly played throughout as Saint Joseph's tallied 14
shots and the Lions had 16. Emerson held a 6-3 advantage in corner
kicks, and each team was called offside four times. Shayna Reich
(Sr., West Hills, Calif.) tallied seven stops for Emerson.
St. Joe's returns to the pitch Tuesday for a non-league game at
Husson College. Emerson will travel to Lesley University for a
non-conference match that same evening.
