Box Score

BABSON PARK, MA – Babson College defeated Saint Joseph's College (13-3, 4-0 GNAC), 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-14), in a non-conference volleyball match on Thursday evening.

Freshman Shadai Gosselin (Somersworth, N.H.) led the Monks with six kills, while classmate Victoria Huntley (Ellsworth, Maine) notched five kills and a team-high 12 digs. First-year setter Mariah Hebert (Biddeford, Maine) posted 16 assists and sophomore Felicia Wachowiak (Milton, N.H.) had five kills and a match-high four blocks.

The Beavers jumped to an early 5-1 lead in the opening set, but St. Joe's rattled off 13 of the next 18 points, including three straight kills from Wachowiak, to take its biggest lead of the game at 14-10. The advantage was short-lived though, as Babson closed on a 15-6 run that included four kills from Lorraine Mackiewicz (Edison, N.J.) and three from Mary Donahue (Braintree, Mass.) for a one-set advantage.

The Beavers seldom trailed on its way to a 25-18 second-set win, but were forced to rally again in game three. After five ties and a pair of early lead changes, Saint Joseph's grabbed a 14-11 lead on a service ace by senior Erica Russi (Debary, Fla.). The Beavers took command from there however, running off the game's final 14 points to close the match. Mackiewicz and Wilde combined for five kills during the run, sophomore Julia Goldstein (Lynnfield, Mass.) had a pair of service aces, and Babson took advantage of seven Monks' attack errors to win its fourth straight match.

For Babson, sophomore Alicia Wilde (Franklin, Mass.) registered a match-high 10 kills and Mackiewicz chipped in with nine kills and a team-high three blocks. Sophomore Krissy Robertson (Dedham, Mass.) had a match-high 21 assists to go along with three service aces for the Beavers.

Saint Joseph's will participate in a conference tri-match at Rivier University on Saturday. The Monks face the host-Raiders at 11:00 AM and face-off against Anna Maria College at 1:00 PM. Babson hosts WPI at 7:00 PM on Tuesday.
