Box Score STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (8-4, 4-1 GNAC) defeated Johnson & Wales University, 2-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey match at Mercy Field on Saturday afternoon.
THE LEAD
Sophomore Karissa Boesch (Eliot, Maine) put the Monks on the board at the 2:45 mark when the second-year forward slammed home a rebound to net her first goal of the season. Sophomore Bailey Cutler (Lisbon Falls, Maine) provided the hosts with some breathing room in the 55th minute when she perfectly executed a tip-in off a Meghan Williams (Greenland, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) crossing pass.
As it played out, the insurance marker proved to be the winner, as the Wildcats converted a penalty corner 11 minutes later. Sophomore midfielder Shaina Thompson (Delmar, Del.) effectively cut the visitors' deficit in half with an odd-angle shot from the left that landed in the lower right corner of the cage. Junior Amy Martin (Enfield, Conn.) was credited with an assist on the play.

- Boesch, making her third start of the season, paced the Royal Blue with five shots, all on target, in the victory
- Cutler's game-winner counts as her second of the 2015 campaign
- Today's contest marked the first time that the JWU field hockey team – a third-year NCAA DIII program – has played on the SJC campus
THE KEEPERS
Freshman goalie Megan Baker (Gorham, Maine) made a pair of saves, including a terrific diving stick stop on a Giovanna Ciavardoni (Latham, N.Y.) breakaway in the seventh minute, in the victory.
JWU sophomore Shannon Yoder (Boyertown, Pa.) made eight saves in the losing bid.
TEAM TOTALS
Saint Joseph's owned an 11-4 shots advantage with a 9-3 lead in penalty corners on the afternoon.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING
Saint Joseph's is now 3-0 all-time versus Johnson & Wales University, which has lost seven games by one goal this fall.
