Saint Joseph's Handles Anna Maria, 4-0

PAXTON, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (6-5-0, 3-1-0 GNAC) blanked Anna Maria College (2-7-1, 0-3-1 GNAC), 4-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon.

THE LEAD

The scoreless contest was interrupted in the 22nd minute as an AMCAT handball inside the box granted the Monks a penalty kick, which was buried by Desiree Parent (Westborough, Mass.) for the first score. The Monks added a second goal late in the first half to lead 2-0 at halftime and added two more scores in the second half to account for the 4-0 final.

NOTABLES

Senior forward Hannah LeBlanc (Andover, Mass.) scored a goal and added an assist in the GNAC victory and freshman Haley DaGraca (Saco, Maine) netted her team-leading eighth marker of the season. Also, freshman Emily Moreau (Litchfield, Mass.) potted her first NCAA goal in the 41st minute.

THE KEEPERS

For Saint Joseph's, sophomore Brooke Troup (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and senior Michelle Cunha (Enfield, Conn.) split time in goal, with the former making a pair of stops in 77:08 of play and the latter adding one save in 12:52 of mop-up duty.

Anna Maria's sophomore netminder Kate Kneeland (Windham, Maine) tallied 15 saves in the losing effort.

TEAM TOTALS

The Monks held a commanding 32-9 lead in shots with a 4-3 edge in corner kicks on the afternoon.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING

The Monks are now 5-0 in the history of the series with the AMCATS and have outscored their conference counterpart, 27-0, in the five meetings.

Saint Joseph's has won five of the last six games and outscored opponents by a collective 21-3 margin during this span.

NEXT!

Saint Joseph's travels to New Haven on Saturday for a 1:00 PM conference contest against Albertus Magnus College (4-5-2, 2-2-0 GNAC). The Monks are 6-3 all-time versus the Falcons and defeated Albertus by a 1-0 score in Standish last fall.
