Eagles Clip Monks in Double-OT, 2-1

BANGOR, Maine – Husson University (3-2) edged Saint Joseph's College (1-2), 2-1 in double-overtime in a non-conference field hockey game on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Husson sophomore Sadie Royer (Greene, Maine) bookended the contest with unassisted goals in the 18th and 98th minutes, with the latter proving to be the game-winner in the sudden-victory 7v7 overtime format.

St. Joe's sophomore Libby Pomerleau (Saco, Maine) netted the Monks' lone marker off a Maddy Beaulieu (West Gardiner, Maine) pass just four second into the second half.

THE KEEPERS:

Saint Joseph's junior Megan Baker (Gorham, Maine) was spectacular in the setback, making a career-high 19 saves while receiving help from junior Kayla Veilleux (Sabattus, Maine), who posted a pair of defensive saves on the evening.

Husson senior keeper Anne Marie Provencal (Skowhegan, Maine) stopped 12 of the 13 shots she faced in the victory.

TEAM STATS:

Husson posted sizeable leads in shots (32-15), shots on goal (23-13), and penalty corners (14-9) in the non-conference win.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the loss, Saint Joseph's falls to 15-20 in the history of the series with Husson University. The Monks have now dropped three-consecutive games to the Eagles for the first time since the Royal Blue suffered four-straight setbacks spanning the 2005 and 2006 seasons.

Saint Joseph's will host Regis (Mass.) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play Friday in a 4:00 PM start at the Saint Joseph's College Athletics Complex.
