WENHAM, Mass. – Freshman Sophia Jacques (Peru, Maine) netted the first three goals of her collegiate career to help Saint Joseph's College (11-2) defeat Gordon College (5-10), 3-1, in a non-conference field hockey game on Monday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks applied plenty of pressure early and finally found the scoreboard on their fourth penalty corner of the first quarter, when Jacques scored off an Alexandra Belaire (Greene, Maine) pass at the 11:56 mark.

The Jacques-Belaire combo struck again 3:07 into the second quarter to make it a 2-0 contest.

The Fighting Scots cut the Monks' advantage in half when Cara Goudie netted an unassisted marker in the 23rd minute.

Jacques completed the hat trick performance early in the third quarter when she hit pay dirt on another penalty corner bid. Sophomore Emma Rutledge (Alfred, Maine) was credited with an assist on the visitors' final tally.

THE KEEPERS:

Saint Joseph's junior Alexandria Simpson (Pascoag, R.I.) made three saves in the victory while Gordon netminder Julia Altman recorded four stops in the setback.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (12-7), shots on goal (8-4), and penalty corners (9-2) in the 3-1 triumph.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's is now 4-2 all-time versus Gordon College and have defeated the Fighting Scots in three-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2017 season.
