STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (6-1) toppled UMaine-Farmington (0-6), 5-0, in non-conference field hockey action at the SJC Athletics Complex on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Sophomore Emma Rutledge (Alfred, Maine) opened the scoring when she netted her third goal of the season off a Libby Pomerleau (Limerick, Maine) pass 9:25 into the game. Just over four minutes later, sophomore Meghan Hill (Brookline, N.H.) tallied her third strike of the year off a Maddy Beaulieu (West Gardiner, Maine) feed.

Pomerleau and Rutledge connected again at the 23:49 mark, with the former scoring her second of the year and the latter dealing her fourth assist of the season.

Early in the third quarter, Alexa Gutowski (Conway, N.H.) closed out the scoring with a pair of markers in a matter of two minutes. Freshman Sophia Jacques (Peru, Maine) was credited with an assist on Gutowski's first tally.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (20-7), shots on goal (15-7), and penalty corners (11-5) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC junior Alexandria Simpson (Pascoag, R.I.) made thre saves in 45 minutes of play before giving way to sophomore Isabella Anton (Mount Vernon, N.H.), who posted three stops in the fourth quarter.

UMF freshman Katelyn Rouleau (Freeport, Maine) faced 14 shots and made nine saves in the losing effort.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory Saint Joseph's improves to 13-16 all-time versus UMaine-Farmington and has now defeated the Beavers in seven-consecutive meetings. The five-goal margin of victory is the most recorded by the Monks in the history of the series.
