Monks Shoot Past Falcons, 8-0

Box Score

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (7-1, 2-0 GNAC) toppled Albertus Magnus College (1-5, 0-2 GNAC), 8-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey contest on a hot Saturday afternoon at the SJC Athletics Complex.

The Monks broke the program record with 58 shots – besting the former mark of 50 (vs. Salem State, 10/18/16) – and featured seven different goal-scorers in the one-sided triumph. Senior Libby Pomerleau (Limerick, Maine) was the lone repeat-scorer with two goals and two assists in the victory over the second-year program.

With an assist on a Meghan Hill (Brookline, N.H.) tally in the 14th minute, Pomerleau overtook Kayla Nowell '11 as the Monks' all-time points leader. Pomerleau – who became the leading goal scorer in team history last fall - has netted 149 points (62 goals, 25 assists) over 71 career games while Nowell notched 146 points (57 goals, 32 assists) in 75 games over four seasons.

Albertus Magnus freshman goalkeeper Mikayla Lyston (Medford, N.Y.) was by far the busiest player on the field and notched a career-high 34 saves in the setback. Lyston made a handful of acrobatic stops, including a diving block on an Alexandra Belaire (Greene, Maine) penalty stroke attempt at the 33:33 mark.

Saint Joseph's returns to play next Friday with a non-conference home game versus Thomas College at 6:00 PM.
