Box Score

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (5-0-2, 1-0-1 GNAC) defeated Albertus Magnus College (4-2-1, 1-1-0 GNAC), 4-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer action at the SJC Athletics Complex on a muggy Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Saint Joseph's maintained possession for most of the contest and put up a pair of goals in a matter of two minutes and 22 seconds midway through the first half. Sophomore Kuma Onyejose (East Greenwich, R.I.) scored off a Keenan Welzel (Brunswick, Maine) corner with a nifty run-through flick to the right side of the net at the 14:15 mark and senior Noah Robinson (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) doubled the SJC cushion with a goal in traffic at the 16:37 time stamp. Senior Ryan Buonaiuto (Scituate, R.I.) was credited with an assist on the Monks' second strike.

Sophomore Austin Ward (North Andover, Mass.) made it a 3-0 game with his second goal of the season off a Quinn Hewitt (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) feed in the 28th minute and Robinson connected for his second tally of the afternoon – and fourth of the season – on a Cody Elliott (Gorham, Maine) corner kick in the 47th minute.

TEAM STATS:

The Monks held considerable leads in shots (25-4), shots on goal (8-2), and corner kicks (8-0) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

Three netminders saw time in goal for the Monks, as junior starter David Walbridge (Hampden, Mass.) was untested in nearly 56 minutes of play before yielding to freshman Tomas Griffin (Belmont, Mass.), who stopped both shots he faced over 24:16 of play. Sophomore Rowan Daligan (Portland, Maine) finished up the game with 9:49 minutes of uneventful time. Griffin and Daligan both made their collegiate debut in today's victory.

Albertus keeper Garfield Robinson made four saves and allowed four goals in the setback.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • 28 players saw time for the Monks in the victory
  • Saint Joseph's is now 32-0-4 in their last 36 home games with the team's last loss being a 2-0 setback at the hands of University of New England on September 4th, 2016; this stretch includes a 25-0-2 record at the SJC Athletics Complex.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory Saint Joseph's improves to 8-8-0 all-time versus Albertus Magnus College and has now defeated the Falcons in four-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2016 season. All four wins during the stretch have been of the shutout variety.
