STANDISH, Maine – Emerson College (3-1) clipped Saint Joseph's College (1-1-1), 1-0, in a non-conference women's soccer contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Lions produced the game's only offense in the 31st minute, when first-year midfielder Marie Bou Aziz (Miami, Fla.) scored off a pass from freshman Meghan MacPherson (Tualatin, Ore.).

The Monks' best scoring chance came at the 62:25 mark when junior Kayla Gooch (Dracut, Mass.) broke free on a breakaway but her shot sailed two feet off target to the right side.

THE KEEPERS:

Saint Joseph's sophomore Adia Grogan (Kennebunk, Maine) made seven saves in the setback while Emerson sophomore Megan Rose (Danville, Calif.) stopped both shots she faced in the shutout victory.

TEAM STATS:

Emerson held the advantage in shots (16-3) and shots on goal (8-2) while Saint Joseph's posted a 3-1 lead in corner kicks on the afternoon.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the loss Saint Joseph's falls to 4-1-3 all-time versus Emerson College, a team the Monks had not faced since the 2012 season – the Lions' last as a member of the GNAC - prior to this afternoon.

Saint Joseph's returns to action next Wednesday when the team plays host to University of Southern Maine in a 6:00 PM start.
