Monks Sail Past Lasers, Lewis Earns 200th Career Victory

Box Score

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (7-2, 3-0 GNAC) blanked Lasell University (4-6, 3-1 GNAC), 3-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey action at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, Head Coach Rupert Lewis hit the 200 career-win mark. Now in his 17th season at the helm for the Monks, Coach Lewis owns a 200-95 (.678) career record. He is the seventh SJC skipper to reach the 200-victory plateau (single sport) and currently owns the fifth-best winning percentage in the history of Saint Joseph's College athletics.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks dominated possession and the stat sheet but failed to find the scoresheet until early in the second quarter, when freshman Abbie Jacques (Mount Vernon, Maine) scored her fourth goal of the season off an Emma Rutledge (Alfred, Maine) pass at the 15:21 mark.

Senior Meghan Hill (Brookline, N.H.) upped the ante with her third tally of the year off an Alison Michalik (Rutland, Mass.) feed in the 30th minute and Rutledge connected on a Cailyn Wesley (Peabody, Mass.) dish in the 41st minute.

TEAM STATS:

The Monks tallied 40 shots, 28 shots on goal, and 25 penalty corners in the victory. The Lasers did not attempt a shot or a corner in the losing bid.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC freshman Kassidy Collins (Gardiner, Maine) and senior Isabella Anton (Mont Vernon, N.H.) combined to log 60 minutes of shutout play without facing a shot while Lasell freshman Courtney Tello (Nashua, N.H.) kept her team within striking distance throughout by stopping 23 of the 26 shots she faced in the setback.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 21-4 all-time versus Lasell University and has now defeated the Lasers in six-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2017 campaign. These two teams have met in each of the last three GNAC Championship games with the Monks coming out on top on all three occasions.
