STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (12-1-2, 11-0-0 GNAC) tipped Colby-Sawyer College (5-9-0, 5-7-0 GNAC), 1-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer action at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks scored the game's lone goal in the 29th minute, when a long lead pass from Colin Grant (Harvard, Mass.) found Noah Elmore (Berlin, Vt.) near the top right corner of the box. Elmore was quickly swarmed by Charger defenders, but managed to chip a high, odd-angle shot that bounced into an empty net. Seemingly due to miscommunication with his defenders, Colby-Sawyer keeper Lucas Boetsch left his post to challenge Elmore and was far from a position to make the save.

SENIOR MOMENT:

Prior to the start of the contest, the Monks held a brief ceremony to honor the program's eight seniors: Kyle Cocciardi (Windham, N.H.), Rowan Daligan (Peaks Island, Maine), Jackson Fotter (Gorham, Maine), Jarred Greenleaf (Scarborough, Maine), Kuma Onyejose (East Greenwich, R.I.), Jacob Rockwood (Hopkinton, N.H.), Austin Ward (North Andover, Mass.), and Michael Wildes (Winslow, Maine). This group of seniors has helped St. Joe's post an incredible 49-4-5 (.845) overall record with a 31-0-2 (.939) mark in conference play as well as win the 2018 GNAC Championship.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the advantage in shots (16-5), shots on goal (11-3), and corner kicks (7-2) in the conference victory.

THE KEEPERS:

Senior Rowan Daligan (Peaks Island, Maine) posted a shutout in his first collegiate start with three saves while Boetsch kept his team in the game with 10 stops, including several diving stabs.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 5-0-1 all-time versus Colby-Sawyer College.

Saint Joseph's closes out the 2021 regular season on Tuesday with a home conference contest versus Dean College. Kick-off is set for 6:00 PM.
