STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (4-1, 1-0 GNAC) toppled Anna Maria College (1-5, 1-1 GNAC), 7-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Despite controlling possession for the majority of the first two quarters, the Monks went into intermission clinging to a 1-0 edge as Emma Rutledge (Alfred, Maine) scored off a corner in the 6th minute.

Halftime adjustments certainly paid off, as the offense netted three goals in the first five minutes of the third quarter. Senior Meghan Hill (Brookline, N.H.) hit pay dirt twice – both off penalty corners – in a matter of 32 seconds and sophomore Megan Mourmouras (Biddeford, Maine) slammed home her second goal of the season at the 34:58 mark to make it a 4-0 game.

Rutledge notched her second goal of the afternoon to make it a 5-0 game with 2:18 left in the third quarter and junior Megan Quirion (Oakland, Maine) tacked on her second tally of the year in the 57th minute. Freshman Abby Jacques (Mount Vernon, Maine) capped the game scoring off an Elly Walker (Scarborough, Maine) pass at the 59:37 mark.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held decisive leads in shots (24-6), shots on goal (19-4), and penalty corners (23-1).

THE KEEPERS:

SJC freshman Kassidy Collins (Gardiner, Maine) made four saves in a shutout performance while Anna Maria junior Hannah Tobey (Falmouth, Mass.) recorded 12 stops in a losing effort.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 17-3 all-time versus Anna Maria College and has now defeated the AMCATS in seven-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2015 campaign.
