STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (3-3-0, 3-0-0 GNAC) cruised past Anna Maria College (1-5-0, 0-2-0 GNAC), 6-2, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks shook off a sluggish start and carried a 4-0 cushion into intermission. Junior Sama Colatruglio (Mahopac, N.Y.) opened the scoring off a Madison Michaud (Presque Isle, Maine) feed at the 12:04 mark and the freshman connection of Shauna Clark (Oakland, Maine) and Alicen Burnham (Monmouth, Maine) made it a 2-0 game when the former hit pay dirt 10 minutes later.

After two close calls in the opening 15 minutes, Michaud struck for her sixth of the year off a nice feed from sophomore Aaliyah Wilson-Falcone (Winthrop, Maine) at the 27-minute mark. In the 43rd minute, senior Maddi Cormier (Bangor, Maine) added her first of the season, with Clark getting the assist, to cap the first-half ledger.

St. Joe's picked up where they left off with plenty of offensive pressure in the second stanza and the effort paid off in the 64th minute when Michaud punched home her second of the afternoon on a breakaway. Senior Kayley Mattos (Mahopac, N.Y.) sprung her junior teammate free with a long well-placed through ball to set up the tally.

Momentum began to swing in the AMCATS' favor, as the visitors scored twice in a matter of 73 seconds to make it a 5-2 game. Freshman Gabrielle Jamerson-Martin (Hiram, Maine) struck first on a PK attempt at the 63:17 mark as SJC freshman keeper Alexandra Southworth (Rockport, Maine) got a piece of the shot but the ball trickled into the right side of the net.

Anna Maria midfielder DeAnna Baker (Lansdale, Pa.) hit pay dirt at the 64:30 mark, as the senior took advantage of a misplayed ball and chipped a shot into an empty net.

With nearly the entire starting lineup off the field, the Monks began to regain control of the contest as the players off the bench began to gel. Sophomore Tatum Hancock (Damariscotta, Maine), among the hosts' best players in the closing portion of the contest, netted her first collegiate goal in the 77th minute off a pass from junior Samantha Magill (Glocester, R.I.) to account for the 6-2 final.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (25-6), shots on goal (16-3), and corner kicks (5-2) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

Senior starter Adia Grogan (Kennebunk, Maine) turned away the only shot she faced in 32:15 between the pipes while Southworth and sophomore Carly Downey (Yarmouth, Maine) allowed a goal apiece while logging 32:01 and 25:44 minutes, respectively.

AMCAT senior starter Rachel Matloff (Grafton, Mass.) allowed three goals in 31:36 minutes before giving way to junior Alice Yokabaskas (Farmingdale, Maine), who stopped 10 of 13 shots in 58:24 minutes of relief.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the win, Saint Joseph's remains undefeated versus Anna Maria College with 10 victories in 10 meetings with the AMCATS.
