STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (6-7-0, 6-3-0 GNAC) toppled Dean College (1-8-3, 0-7-2 GNAC), 6-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Saint Joseph's maintained possession for the majority of play and had several chances to strike early. On their 10th shot of the game, the Monks hit pay dirt when junior Aaliyah Wilson-Falcone (Winthrop, Maine) netted her team-leading sixth goal of the year off a Madison Michaud (Presque Isle, Maine) pass at the 16:36 mark.

Freshman Lelia Weir (Bar Harbor, Maine) made it a 2-0 game when she scored her third goal of the season following a corner kick in the 38th minute.

After connecting for two goals on 25 shots in the first half, the Monks doled out four goals on 24 bids in the second stanza to account for the 6-0 final. Senior Nikki Sheehan (Medway, Mass.), Michaud, freshman Sydney Gallop (Hermon, Maine), and junior Tatum Hancock (Damariscotta, Maine) all found the back of the net in the scoring barrage.

Junior Claudia Janelle (Biddeford, Maine) delivered three assists in the victory while sophomore Alicen Burnham (Monmouth, Maine) and senior Samantha Magill (Glocester, R.I.) also added helpers on the evening.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held lopsided advantages in shots (49-1), shots on goal (30-0), and corner kicks (12-1) in the triumph.

THE KEEPERS:

Dean starter Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) made 20 saves and allowed four goals in 60:34 minutes and Lexi Gerow (Pownal, Vt.) turned away four shots while allowing a pair of goals in 29:26 of relief duty. SJC junior Carly Downey (Yarmouth, Maine) (64:44) and freshman Manuela Mejia (Winthrop, Mass.) (25:16) both saw action and neither faced a shot in the shutout.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's is now 2-0-0 all-time versus Dean College after defeating the Bulldogs by a 3-0 score in Franklin, Mass. last season.
