STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (8-3-1, 7-1-0 GNAC) blanked Albertus Magnus College (7-3-3, 5-2-2 GNAC), 4-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer game at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.

SENIOR MOMENT:

Prior to the start of the game the Monks held a brief ceremony to honor the program's three seniors: Mardo Kikobo (Greene, Maine), Alec Kosinski (East Lyme, Conn.), and Mike Sheridan (Folsom, Pa.). This trio has helped Saint Joseph's post a 40-7-6 (.755) overall record with a 28-1-2 (.903) mark in GNAC play with a 2021 conference championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance during their college careers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Kikobo opened the game scoring just 1:28 after the opening whistle, as the senior speedster converted a Will Wood (Franklin, N.H.) right-to-left cross in the box for his first NCAA goal and an early SJC lead.

Sophomore Gus Ford (Falmouth, Maine) made it a 2-0 game 10 minutes later when he notched his third goal of the season off another perfect crossing pass from Wood, who netted his first marker of the year on a Henry Wylde (Perth, Western Australia) pass in the 44th minute.

Graduate students Michael Wildes (Winslow, Maine) and Austin Ward (Exeter, N.H.) connected for the final strike of the game at the 57:15 mark, when Ward delivered a low corner kick to Wildes, who nimbly deflected the pass into the net for his second goal of the season.

TEAM STATS:

The Monks held the lead in shots (15-7), shots on goal (9-4), and corner kicks (9-2) in the conference victory.

THE KEEPERS:

Sheridan turned away four shots to register his fourth shutout of the season while Albertus Magnus freshman David Lucero (East Haven, Conn.) made five saves in a losing effort.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the win Saint Joseph's improves to 10-8-0 all-time versus Albertus Magnus College and has now defeated the Falcons in six-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2016 campaign.

NEXT!

The Monks will play at Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday in a GNAC contest set to start at 3:30 PM.
