#9 Babson Tops Saint Joseph's, 4-2

STANDISH, Maine - #9 Babson College (9-3, 4-0 NEWMAC) defeated Saint Joseph's College (8-6, 5-2 GNAC), 4-2, in a non-conference field hockey matchup at the SJC Athletics Complex on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Babson, ranked ninth nationally in the most recent National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) poll, maintained consistent offensive pressure for the better part of the contest and struck first when junior midfielder Andrea Marguerite (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored 4:38 after the opening whistle.

The Beavers doubled their advantage with exactly five minutes left in the second quarter when senior Meara Hanyon (Brodheadsville, Pa.) converted a penalty stroke attempt.

The visitors made it a 3-0 game just 89 seconds into the third quarter when senior Isabelle Fournier (West Kingston, R.I.) scored off a pass from Claire Nichols (St. Louis, Mo.).

The Monks kicked off the fourth quarter with renewed vigor and managed to make it a 3-2 game with a pair of penalty corner goals in the opening seven minutes of the final frame. In the 47th minute, senior Megan Quirion (Oakland, Maine) scored on an assist by senior Aimee Adams (Gardiner, Maine), who made it a one-goal game with her eighth goal of the year off a Maya Waryas (Bellows Falls, Vt.) feed.

Babson senior Amber Rose (Falmouth, Maine) essentially put the game away for the visitors when she hit pay dirt in the 57th minute off a Marguerite pass.

TEAM STATS:

Babson held the lead in shots (24-5), shots on goal (16-4), and penalty corners (15-5) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC sophomore Kassidy Collins (Gardiner, Maine) made 12 saves in the loss while Babson sophomore Bayla Furmanek (State College, Pa.) posted a pair of stops in her team's victory.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's falls to 0-4 all-time versus Babson College with today's result.
