STANDISH, Maine – Colby-Sawyer College (9-13, 6-10 GNAC) outlasted Saint Joseph's College (7-17, 6-10 GNAC), 94-83, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball action on Mike McDevitt Court at the Harold Alfond Center on Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The teams traded the lead on 12 occasions and played to four tie scores in the conference bout, but the Chargers took the advantage for good – as it played out - when junior forward Omar Boone (Colorado City, Texas) converted a layup make it a 47-46 game with 1:06 left in the first half.

Colby-Sawyer put the game out of reach early in the second stanza by posting a 10-0 run out of the locker room, as a Zack Caraballo (Salem, N.H.) layup lifted the visitors to a 59-48 cushion with 16:11 remaining. Saint Joseph's cut the deficit down to four points (72-68) when senior guard Nicholas Curtis (Windham, Maine) hit a jump shot with 7:33 left, but the Chargers answered with an 11-3 outbreak, which was capped by a pair of free throws from Boone and gave the visitors a game-high 12-point (83-71) advantage with 3:45 on the clock.

STATS OF THE GAME:

The Chargers shot 60.7% (34-56) from the floor and 85% (17-20) from the FT line in the victory…The Monks countered by shooting 43.2% (35-18) from the field and a 1-for-3 effort from the charity stripe…Colby-Sawyer scored 22 points on 14 SJC turnovers.

  • Curtis led all scorers with 27 points and pulled down three rebounds in the loss
  • Senior guard Griffin Foley (Portland, Maine) added 16 points and six boards
  • Freshman guard Julian Llopiz (Boston, Mass.) came off the bench to tally 13 points and eight rebounds
  • Freshman guard Teagan Hynes (York, Maine) chipped in with 12 points and four caroms

  • Freshman guard Kevin Cummings (Portsmouth, N.H.) was 8-for-10 from the floor – including a 4-for-6 three-point shooting effort – with 23 points, four boards, and two steals
  • Junior guard Scott Lampron (Concord, N.H.) added 21 points, five rebounds, and three steals
  • Boone tallied 17 points and eight rebounds
  • Junior forward Conor Kelly (Charlestown, Mass.) was 5-for-7 from the field with 10 points and four boards
