STANDISH, Maine – Junior Rion Dos Santos (São Paulo, Brazil) registered two goals and two assists to help lead Saint Joseph's College (10-3-2, 10-2-0 GNAC) past Colby-Sawyer College (2-9-4, 1-7-4 GNAC), 6-2, in a Great Northeast Athletics Conference (GNAC) men's soccer contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks kicked off the scoring barrage in the third minute when freshman Cole Bishop (Gorham, Maine) found the back of the net off a Dos Santos corner kick. Dos Santos made it a 2-0 game two minutes later when he collected a Haytham Ramadan (Khartoum, Sudan) rebound and beat Colby-Sawyer netminder Alex Gomez-Agudelo (Mesquite, Texas) for his fourth goal of the season.

Freshman midfielder Patricio Mowa (Luanda, Angola) put the hosts on top by three goals when he steered a shot from outside the 18 to the bottom right corner at the 7:25 mark. Dos Santos and freshman Diego Robinson (Hinesburg, Vt.) received credit for assists on what was Mowa's first NCAA goal.

Dos Santos hit pay dirt again in the 16th minute when he drilled a free kick from about 25 yards out that slipped through the Colby-Sawyer keeper's hands.

The Chargers found the board in the 27th minute when freshman Cullen Visscher (Katy, Texas) belted a free kick into the top left corner of the net, but the Monks reclaimed the four-goal advantage 90 seconds later when Robinson tacked on his second career goal.

Colby-Sawyer cut the deficit down to 5-2 when Visscher nailed another free kick 1:17 into the second half. The Monks closed out the scoring ledger in the 76th minute when junior Nate Sottak (Belmont, N.H.) corralled his own rebound and knocked the ball into the right side of the net.

TEAM STATS:

The Monks held considerable advantages – and posted season-highs - in shots (40-9), shots on goal (24-6), and corner kicks (13-2) in the conference victory.

THE KEEPERS:

Gomez-Agudelo was strong in goal for the Chargers with 17 saves, including a handful of 1v1 challenge stops, in the losing effort. The Monks featured a pair of netminders in the victory, as junior starter Liam Foley (Middleton, Mass.) posted four saves in 83:18 minutes and junior Cristian Rodriguez (Stafford, Va.) was untested in 6:42 of play.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 8-0-1 in the history of the series with Colby-Sawyer College.
