STANDISH, Maine – Lasell University (13-1, 10-1 GNAC) surged past Saint Joseph's College (6-9, 6-4 GNAC), 4-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The conference counterparts played fairly even in the first quarter as grad Abbey Playle (Reading, England) hit pay dirt on a penalty corner off a Mckensie Lennon (Jamestown, R.I.) pass at the 7:48 mark and SJC sophomore Maya Waryas (Bellows Falls, Vt.) netted her eighth goal off a Kienna Haley (Scarborough, Maine) corner insert in the 14th minute.

Ultimately, the Lasers' offensive firepower proved to be too much for the Monks to overcome, as senior Lily Stark (Saco, Maine) cleaned up her own rebound at the 18:21 mark to give the visitors the lead for good. Senior Sheridan Blaha (Waltham, Mass.) netted a slick one-timer off a Playle pass in the 43rd minute and struck again 13 minutes later with a nice move on a breakaway to account for the 4-1 final.

TEAM STATS:

Lasell held the lead in shots (40-12), shots on goal (26-6), and penalty corners (9-6) in the conference victory.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC junior Kassidy Collins (Pittston, Maine) kept the Monks within striking distance with an impressive 22-save performance while Lasell junior Courtney Tello (Nashua, N.H.) made five saves in the Laser triumph.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the loss, Saint Joseph's falls to 22-7 all-time in the history of the series with Lasell University.
