#2 Lasell Tops #7 Saint Joseph's in GNAC Quarterfinal, 4-0

NEWTON, Mass. - #2 Lasell University (15-1) blanked #7 Saint Joseph's College (6-12), 4-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey match on Saturday.

PLAYOFF IMPLICATIONS:

With the win, Lasell advances to the second round of the GNAC tourney and will host #3 Colby-Sawyer College in semifinal action on Wednesday, start time TBD. The Chargers clipped #6 Rivier University, 3-2, in overtime in another quarterfinal contest earlier today.

For Saint Joseph's, the loss signals the end of the 2023 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Lasers found the scoreboard early as Sheridan Blaha scored her GNAC-leading 24th goal of the year in the third minute. Jaquelyn Scopa hit pay dirt twice in a matter of three minutes during the second quarter and Lily Stark capped the scoring at the 58:04 mark.

TEAM STATS:

Lasell held the lead in shots (21-5), shots on goal (11-3), and penalty corners (4-2) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC junior Kassidy Collins (Pittston, Maine) made seven saves in the loss while Lasell netminder Courtney Tello registered a pair of saves in the shutout performance.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the loss, Saint Joseph's falls to 22-8 all-time versus Lasell University and has now dropped four-consecutive games at the hands of the Lasers.

SENIOR SENDOFF:

The loss brings an end to the collegiate field hockey careers of the Monks' two seniors: Hannah Michael (Hampton Falls, N.H.) and Kayla Collins (Windham, Maine). Michael is in her first season with the Monks and has been a steadying force on the SJC backline. Collins has been a member of the SJC field hockey program since 2018, when she joined the team as a high school sophomore as a Team IMPACT (Inspire, Motivate, Play Against Challenges, Together) signee.
