STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (3-4-2, 3-2-2 GNAC) clipped Elms College (4-5-0, 3-4-0 GNAC), 1-0, in an evenly-matched Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After a lot of back and forth play, the Monks broke the scoreless stalemate in the 59th minute when sophomore Eliese Perron (South Portland, Maine) netted her second goal of the season off a Claudia Janelle (Biddeford, Maine) pass.

The SJC shutout was preserved thanks in part to the woodwork, as the Blazers rattled a shot off the crossbar at the 29:53 mark and another kick found the right post in the 40th minute.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the edge in shots on goal (8-3) and corner kicks (3-2) while both teams registered 17 total shots in the conference contest.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC senior Carly Downey (Yarmouth, Maine) made three saves to earn her first shutout of the season while her counterpart, Elms senior Angela Picheo (Wood-Ridge, N.J.), turned away seven shots in a losing effort.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 4-0-0 in the history of the series with Elms College.
