STANDISH, Maine. – Saint Joseph's College topped Elms College 3-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer Senior Day contest on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Senior Gus Ford, assisted by Patricio Mowa, put the Monks on the board with his fifth goal of the season in the 29th minute. A goal from Hayes Sweeney, assisted by Cole Bishop, increased the Monks' buffer in the 37th minute of play to 2-0. The 2-0 edge held until the 57:22 mark, when Elms forward Andrew Velasquez netted his first goal of the season.
Saint Joseph's notched their last goal at 79:50 to secure the victory with a goal from Divin Mpinga, assisted by Cole Bishop.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (21-7) and shots on goal (11-4). The Monks and Blazers were evenly matched with four corner kick opportunities each.
THE KEEPERS:
SJC senior Liam Foley made one stop for the Monks while senior Cristian Rodriguez made two in the victory. Aidan Berube turned away eight shots in a losing effort.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 4-1-0 all-time versus Elms College.
