Bluejays Soar to 3-1 Victory over the Monks

STANDISH, ME-The Saint Joseph's College Monks Men's Soccer team took on the University of Saint Joseph's Bluejays for a GNAC match-up on Saturday afternoon in Standish. The Monks are coming off two, 4-0 wins against both Dean College and Lasell University. 

The Bluejays took a 1-0 lead 41:30 into the first half when Senior Forward Henry McGarrah V found the back of the net. The Monks fought hard but allowed another goal 47:23 into the game. Senior Forward Dane Stephens made it 2-0 Bluejays. Two minutes later, Senior Forward Gus Ford beat Bluejays goaltender, Will Slayton, to put the Monks on the board. At 51:18, the Bluejays extended their lead to 3-1 when Sophomore Midfielder Nate Gabriel scored. 

Senior Forward Gus Ford (Falmouth, Maine) led the Monks offense with 3 shots and 1 goal. Senior Midfielder Rion dos Santos (Falmouth, Maine), Senior Forward Nate Sottak (Belmont, New Hampshire), and Freshman Forward Nick Marion (Windham, Maine), all recorded 2 shots for the Monks. Junior Griffin Forbes (Manchester, New Hampshire) and Sophomore Diego Robinson (Hinesburg, Vermont) led the Monks on the defensive end. Senior Goaltender Liam Foley (Middleton, Massachusetts) ended the game with 5 saves. 

The Monks will face Rivier University for their next match on Wednesday, September 25th, at 4 pm in Standish.
