Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Monks Fall at Norwich, 1-0

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Saint Joseph's College (4-7-0, 4-3-0 GNAC) put together a strong performance on the road but fell just short in a 1-0 setback to Norwich University (6-2-4, 4-2-2 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's soccer action on Saturday at Sabine Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The difference came in the 21st minute, when Norwich's Christian Grubic headed home a service from Diego Fuentes off a corner. From there, the Monks dictated much of the play, finishing with a 13-7 advantage in shots and a 7-1 cushion in corner kicks, though the Cadets packed in defensively and managed to thwart the visitors' chances.

The Monks appeared to have tied the game 10 minutes into the second half, when a scramble inside the goal box looked to result in a goal from junior Cole Bishop (Gorham, Maine). It was not meant to be, however, as the officials waved off the tally, citing a foul occurred before the shot was taken.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (13-7) and corner kicks (7-1) while Norwich posted a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal on the afternoon.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC senior goalkeeper Logan Davis (Naples, Maine) made three saves in the setback while NU goalie Kirk Rodgers tallied two stops in the shutout effort.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's is now 13-8-5 all-time versus Norwich University and has dropped four-consecutive games to the Cadets for the first time in the history of the series. The Monks have been shutout in all four setbacks and last scored against Norwich in a 2-1 victory on September 10th, 2022.

NEXT!

Saint Joseph's returns to Standish on Wednesday for a primetime GNAC clash with Emmanuel College at 7:00 PM. The contest carries added weight, as the Monks aim to settle the score with the Saints after falling in a penalty shootout during the quarterfinal round of the 2024 GNAC Tournament.
