Nor'easters Defeat Monks, 3-0

STANDISH, Maine – The University of New England (9-8, 3-2 CCC) swept Saint Joseph's College (10-9, 6-0 GNAC) in non-conference volleyball action on Wednesday afternoon at the Harold Alfond Center. The Nor'easters claimed the match in straight sets (25-21, 25-20, 25-19).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Saint Joseph's hung tough in the opening frame, playing through two ties before UNE pulled away with a late surge to take a 25-21 win. The second set featured eight ties and six lead changes, but the Nor'easters capitalized on Monks' miscues down the stretch to prevail 25-20. In the final set, the visitors built momentum early and held off SJC's comeback bid to secure the sweep with a 25-19 victory.

TEAM STATS:

UNE held the lead in hitting percentage (.259 - .126), kills (37-35), digs (50-48), service aces (9-4), and assists (33-32). Both teams posted four total blocks in the non-conference match.

FOR THE MONKS:

  • Junior Greta Mackintosh (Plymouth, Mass.) – posted a team-best 13 kills with 11 digs.
  • Senior Nadia Sixto (Chattanooga, Tenn.) – added 7 kills with a strong .375 hitting clip and two block assists.
  • Sophomore Sydney Swanson (Columbus, Ohio) – contributed 4 kills and a pair of digs.
  • Freshman Maddie Garrett (Euless, Texas) – notched 2 kills, 11 assists, and 6 digs, while also tallying 2 service aces.
  • Sophomore Riley Greenley (Newark, Del.) – chipped in 9 assists and 4 digs.
  • Juniors Sabrina Arcilla (Rivervale, N.J.) and Jessica Christman (Virginia Beach, Va.) paced the back row with 8 digs apiece.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the loss, the Monks fall to 9-66 all-time against the University of New England, a team St. Joe's defeated by a 3-1 score during the first weekend of the 2025 season.

Saint Joseph's will host Husson University (12:00 PM) and Mitchell College (4:00 PM) on Saturday.
