Monks and Falcons Play to 1-1 Tie on Senior Day

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (7-5-1, 6-3-1 GNAC) and Albertus Magnus College (11-2-3, 6-1-4 GNAC) played to a 1–1 stalemate in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.

SENIOR MOMENT:

Before the contest the Monks held a brief ceremony to honor the program's eight seniors: Emilienne Biddings-Augustine (New Gloucester, Maine), Lacey DeMeo (Londonderry, N.H.), Sydney Gallop (Hermon, Maine), Emily Jackson (Limington, Maine), Eliese Perron (South Portland, Maine), Paige Sawyer (Ellsworth, Maine), Lelia Weir (Bar Harbor, Maine), and Hannah Gosselin (Biddeford, Maine). The women's soccer Class of 2026 has helped the Monks post a 28-32-9 (.471) overall record with a 26-19-8 (.566) mark in GNAC play and three GNAC Tournament appearances during their time on the pitch.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Falcons struck first in the 12th minute when sophomore forward Taya Bagley (Foster, R.I.) converted inside the box to put Albertus Magnus up 1–0. The lead was short-lived, however, as the Monks answered just seven minutes later, when Gallop buried a shot in the 18th minute off a well-placed pass from Weir to even the score at 1–1.

Both defenses and goalkeepers took control from there. The Falcons peppered the cage with 20 total shots, including 14 on frame, but sophomore keeper Ashlyn Guerette (Merrimack, N.H.) stood tall to preserve the 1-1 tie.

TEAM STATS:

Albertus Magnus held the lead in shots (20-11) and shots on goal (14-7) while Saint Joseph's posted a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks on the afternoon.

THE KEEPERS:

Guerette was excellent with 13 saves in the stalemate while her counterpart, Albertus Magnus senior goalkeeper Amy Stevens (Lincoln, R.I.), made six stops.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the result, Saint Joseph's is now 10-5-4 in the history of the series with Albertus Magnus College.
