STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (4-5-0, 3-3-0 GNAC) edged Elms College (6-5-0, 3-3-0 GNAC), 1-0, in a hard-fought Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer matchup at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After nearly 79 minutes of back-and-forth play, the Monks finally broke through when junior Bridget Davis (Scarborough, Maine) finished a baseline sequence set up by senior Emilienne Biddings-Augustine (New Gloucester, Maine) and junior Jordan Huntley (Stafford Springs, Conn.).
Saint Joseph's nearly grabbed the lead earlier in the 53rd minute, when senior Sydney Gallop (Hermon, Maine) rang a shot off the left post that ricocheted into the hands of Elms freshman goalkeeper Breanna White (Lafayette, La.). The Blazers generated pressure with several dangerous free-kick chances, but most of their attempts missed the target.
