HENNIKER, N.H. – Saint Joseph's College (5-5-0, 4-3-0 GNAC) picked up a key road victory with a 1-0 shutout of New England College (4-6-2, 1-4-2 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action at Don Melander Field on Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After a scoreless first half highlighted by several strong saves from senior keeper Ashlyn Guerette (Merrimack, N.H.), the Monks finally broke through in the 59th minute, when senior forward Sydney Gallop (Hermon, Maine) netted her fifth goal of the season, finishing a chance that stood as the game-winner.
The Pilgrims pressed late but were denied by Guerette, who made several stops in the final 15 minutes to preserve the shutout.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (16-9), shots on goal (11-5), and corner kicks (4-3) in the victory.
THE KEEPERS:
Guerette registered five saves to collect her fourth clean sheet of the season while NEC keeper Hollie Bomba kept her team in the contest with 11 stops in a losing bid.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the win, Saint Joseph's improves 7-1-0 all-time versus New England College and has now defeated the Pilgrims in three-consecutive meetings.
