AUBURNDALE, Mass. – #6 Saint Joseph's College (8-8-1, 7-5-1 GNAC) battled #3 Lasell University (11-3-2, 10-2-1 GNAC) to the wire in a hard-fought 1–0 setback in a 2025 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Soccer Tournament Quarterfinal on Saturday afternoon at Taylor Field.
PLAYOFF IMPLICATIONS:
With the win, Lasell advances to the semifinal round of the conference tournament and will play at #2 Rivier University, which defeated #7 USJ by a 3-0 score today, on Wednesday.
For the Monks, the loss signals the end of the 2025 season and the college soccer careers of the team's seven seniors: Emilienne Biddings-Augustine (New Gloucester, Maine), Lacey DeMeo (Londonderry, N.H.), Sydney Gallop (Hermon, Maine), Emily Jackson (Limington, Maine), Eliese Perron (South Portland, Maine), Paige Sawyer (Ellsworth, Maine), and Lelia Weir (Bar Harbor, Maine).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Monks' defense, led by sophomore goalkeeper Ashlyn Guerette (Merrimack, N.H.), kept one of the GNAC's top attacks off the board for more than 84 minutes. Guerette turned in one of her best performances of the season, recording 11 saves and anchoring a gritty defensive unit that frustrated the Lasers' high-powered offense.
Lasell finally broke through late when Ayla Hathaway converted off a cross from Destani Alua-Rioux in the 85th minute for what proved to be the game-winner. Despite pressing forward in the closing minutes, Saint Joseph's could not find the equalizer.
TEAM STATS:
Lasell held the lead in shots (27-4), shots on goal (12-3) and corner kicks (8-0) in the victory.
THE KEEPERS:
Guerette posted 11 saves in the season-ending setback while Lasell's Elizabeth DaSilva made three saves in a clean-sheet performance.
