VOLLEYBALL GNAC QUARTERFINAL PREVIEW: #6 Simmons @ #3 Saint Joseph's

STANDISH, Maine – #3 Saint Joseph's College (17-12, 11-2 GNAC) will host #6 Simmons University (10-17, 8-5 GNAC) in a 2025 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Volleyball Tournament Quarterfinal on Tuesday, November 11 at 6:00 PM at the Harold Alfond Center.

The winner of the #3 Saint Joseph's / #6 Simmons matchup advances to face the #2 Lasell / #7 Colby-Sawyer winner in Thursday's GNAC Semifinals. Semifinal victors will meet in the GNAC Championship on Saturday, November 15, with the league title and an automatic NCAA Tournament berth (beginning November 20) at stake.

THE LAST TIME THEY MET:

The teams squared off Saturday in a GNAC tri-match at Colby-Sawyer, where Saint Joseph's earned a 3–1 win behind a balanced attack and statistical advantages across the board. Mendelson led SJC with 13 kills on .500 hitting, followed by Mackintosh (11 kills, 8 digs), Comolli (10 kills, 3 aces), Briones (16 digs), and Greenley (23 assists). Simmons was paced by Evans (14 kills, 12 digs), Petrosso (11 kills, .421), Diaz (10 kills), Pridgeon (six aces), and Serverius (19 assists, 11 digs).

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's is 8-13 all-time versus Simmons, and Saturday's win snapped a six-match skid against the Sharks.

POSTSEASON HISTORY:

The Monks are making their 14th GNAC Tournament appearance in 18 seasons and hold a 3-13 postseason record since 2007. SJC has won quarterfinal matches in each of the past two years. The program's first-ever GNAC playoff win came against Simmons in 2015, also at the Alfond Center.

Simmons has been the GNAC runner-up three times (1995, 2017, 2022) and owns a 13-15 record across 16 tournament appearances in 18 seasons. The Sharks lead the postseason series with Saint Joseph's, 2-1.
