WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Senior guard Logan Brown (Brunswick, Maine) poured in a career-high 21 points to lead three Monks in double figures as Saint Joseph's College (5–5) defeated Wellesley College (3–4), 76–57, in the Shooting Touch Tournament consolation game at Williams College on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Saint Joseph's came out firing, knocking down six threes in the opening quarter to race out to a 25–18 lead after 10 minutes. Elisabeth Stapelfeld (Brookline, N.H.) and Abby Dube (Groveland, Mass.) each canned a pair of triples in the frame as the Monks established control on the perimeter.
The Monks stretched the margin to 11 late in the second period on a Hayden Madore (Hallowell, Maine) three and a Stapelfeld fast-break layup before Wellesley trimmed the deficit to 41–33 at the break.
Early in the third quarter, Saint Joseph's blew the game open with an 11–0 run fueled by a pair of three-pointers from Brown and another trifecta from freshman Layla Facchiano (Auburn, Maine), pushing the advantage to 52–35. The Monks carried a 54–41 cushion into the final stanza.
Saint Joseph's maintained a double-digit advantage throughout the fourth quarter and claimed a game-high 23-point lead (71–48) when freshman Lily Bean (Ellsworth, Maine) knocked down a three-pointer with 2:18 remaining.
