Saint Joseph’s Secures Top GNAC Playoff Spot with Senior Day Win


STANDISH, Maine. - The Saint Joseph's College Monks (21-4, 13-1) defeated the Dean College Bulldogs (16-8, 7-6) 83-69 the final GNAC men's basketball contest of the regular season on Saturday. With the win, the Monks earned the number one spot in the GNAC playoffs.

Prior to the game, the Monks honored seniors Teagan Hynes (York, ME) and Julian Llopiz (Boston, MA) in a senior day ceremony.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks and Bulldogs swapped the lead five times during the first half. After a three-pointer by John Paul Frazier at the 13:02 mark the Monks were able to maintain the lead. The Monks expanded their lead to as many as 10 points three times while the Bulldogs were able to cut the deficit to as few as two points. Concluding the first half 40-35, the Monks took a five point lead into the second half.

Despite continuing to chip away, the Bulldogs were unable to reduce the gap by less than three and never regained the lead during the second half. The Monks built a lead that grew to as large as 16 points four times before concluding the game 14 points ahead for the 83-69 victory.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:
  • Remijo Wani (Portland, ME) recorded 23 points, four rebounds, and four assists
  • Wani Donato (Portland, ME) contributed 19 points, six rebounds, and four assists
  • Silvano Ismail (Portland, ME) added 16 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and three steals
  • John Paul Frazier (York, ME) notched 15 points, two rebounds, one assist, and one steal
  • Teagan Hynes (York, ME) added three rebounds, three assists, three points, and a steal while Julian Llopiz (Boston, MA) added a rebound on senior day

LEADERS – DEAN:
  • Ja'maine Davenport recorded a game high of 24 points, had three rebounds, and one assist
  • Frankie Idlett tallied 15 points and a game high 12 rebounds for a double-double with three assists and a steal
  • Billy Ray Barnes added 12 points, five rebounds, two assists, and four steals

The Monks are back at home for the GNAC Quarterfinal game on Tuesday at 7:30pm.The Monks will face the winner of the Elms vs Mitchell game being played on Monday night.
