Saint Joseph's Pulls Away in Second Half to Defeat Rivier 91-64

STANDISH, ME. - The Saint Joseph's College Monks (16-4, 8-1) defeated the Rivier Raiders (10-11, 3-7) 91-64 in a GNAC men's basketball contest on Tuesday evening. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks started off with an early 13-6 lead before the Raiders reduced the deficit to four with 14:50 remaining in the first half. In response, the Saint Joseph's Monks mounted a 20-10 run over the next seven minutes, expanding their lead to 14 points at 33-19 with 7:23 left in the half. Rivier mounted a comeback trimming the deficit to single digits with 4:06 remaining. The Monks ended the half on a 7-0 run, taking a 40-28 lead into the break.

The Raiders cut the Monks' lead to 45-38 with 17:21 remaining in the game. However, the Saint Joseph's College Monks regained a double-digit advantage and maintained it for the remainder of the game, finishing with a commanding 46-26 run to secure the victory.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Remijo Wani (Portland, ME) led the Monks with 21 points, five assists, four steals, and eight rebounds

  • John Paul Frazier (York, ME) contributed 18 points, four rebounds, and one steal

  • Julian Llopiz (Boston, MA) recorded 13 points and six rebounds

  • Wani Donato (Portland, ME) added 12 points, eight assists, one steal, and nine rebounds

  • Tong Maiwen (Juba, South Sudan) recorded a double-double, with 10 points and leading the Monks in rebounds with a game high of 10

LEADERS – RAIDERS:

  • Steph Barnes led the Raiders with 15 points, three rebounds, and five assists

  • Kyler Bosse notched 14 points, four rebounds, two assists, and one steal

  • Joey Merrill recorded nine points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals
     

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
Today's game marks the 33rd contest between the Monks and the Raiders. With the victory, the Monks improve to 28-5 against the Raiders.
