STANDISH, ME- The #1 seeded Saint Joseph's College of Maine men's basketball team is set to compete in the GNAC Championship for the second year in a row as they host #2 Lasell University Saturday at 4:00 PM.
With a strong 23-4 overall record and an impressive 14-1 mark in conference play, the Monks earned their spot in the championship game after defeating Mitchell College 115-85 in the quarterfinals and securing a 85-71 win over Albertus Magnus in the semifinals.
The team is led by Remijo Wani who is averaging 17.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, along with Silvano Ismaill, contributing 16.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. The Monks also have seen key contributions from Wani Donato, Patia Donato, and John-Paul Frazier. Saint Joseph's College has been a dominant force on the boards this season, outrebounding opponents by an average of 11.6 boards per game. Additionally, the Monks are known for their potent three-point shooting, averaging 11.2 threes per game. The Monks are 5th nationally in field goal percentage (49.25%), 10th in defensive rebounds per game (30.1), and 47th in three point percentage (30.3)..Â
Earlier this season, the Monks beat the Lasers 94-71 on the road. Saint Joseph's holds a 17-15 lead in the all-time series.Â
The Lasers are led by Modesko (18.8 ppg, 7.1 rpg) and Lewis (17.7 ppg, 7.2 rpg).
The Monks are ready to claim the GNAC Championship on their home court this Saturday afternoon.
