WATERVILLE, Maine – Colby College (1-0) dominated Saint Joseph's College (1-1) with a decisive 19-1 win in a non-conference women's lacrosse game at Bill Alfond Field on Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Mules wasted no time, jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. Julia Jardina was the driving force early, scoring three of her four total goals in the opening 15 minutes. Saint Joseph's struggled to get anything going offensively, managing just two shots in the first quarter.
Colby kept the pressure on in the second, adding six more goals to stretch the lead to 12-0. The Mules showed off their depth with seven different players scoring throughout the game, and Ainsley Dion had a standout performance, scoring three goals and helping to fuel the attack.
Saint Joseph's finally got on the board at the 7:10 mark of the second quarter when Sophia Burton scored on a man-up opportunity. The Mules quickly responded with a couple more goals to close out the half.
The second half saw more of the same as Colby added seven more goals while keeping Saint Joseph's offense in check. By the final whistle, the Mules had cruised to a dominant 19-1 win.
TEAM STATS: Colby dominated in nearly every category, outshooting Saint Joseph's 35-8, winning the ground ball battle 20-13, and controlling 18 of 23 draw controls. The Mules' offense was sharp, converting on 19 goals from 35 shots.
THE KEEPERS: Saint Joseph's rotated through three goalkeepers. Morgan Wright started and made two saves in the first half, while Julia Price and Alexis Eldridge played in the second. For Colby, Gigi Peloso played the second half, recording three saves, while Jillian Kane and Brynna Hall contributed in the first half.
