Dickey Named GNAC Man of the Year Finalist

WINTHROP, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College of Maine senior Dylan Dickey has been named one of eight finalists for the 2024–25 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Man of the Year Award as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

The GNAC Athlete of the Year award is modeled after the NCAA Woman of the Year award. It recognizes graduating student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.

Dickey graduated from Saint Joseph's College of Maine with a 3.67 GPA, majoring in Business and Sports Management, earning Magna Cum Laude honors in the process and was also a three-time GNAC All-Academic member and two-time CSC Academic All-District member. Dickey was a dual-sport athlete for the Monks, competing in both Track & Field and Soccer as he finished his career a three-time All-Conference member in Track & Field and was a fourth-place finisher at the 2024 New England DIII Championships in the Javelin competition. The school record holder in Javelin and Discus, Dickey was instrumental in helping the Monks win three straight track and field titles in both indoor and outdoor seasons. On campus, he was a sports information intern this past year in the Monks' Athletic Communications Department.

The GNAC Man of the Year winner will be announced on Wednesday, July 16. Read more about the GNAC Athlete of the year for men's sports here.

Dylan's Personal Statement:

Coming into college at St. Joes was a brand new experience that I never thought I would get to have. I always knew that I wanted to be someone who was involved with all kinds of people on campus, but I never realized how easy it would be. As an athlete on both the Track and Soccer teams, I immediately jumped into a world of friends at this small school. Moving up through the years and becoming an upperclassman also transformed me into a leader and role model towards many of my friends. I say this because I have received many texts, notes, and had conversations with other athletes who have said that I have helped them push themselves further with my own work ethic. To me, that is the greatest piece of success that I took out of my four years at Saint Joseph's College. I had my own fair share of highs and lows in my athletic journey, but being able to leave my track program in good hands will forever be a spot of pride in my heart.

My biggest accomplishment has been seeing my program grow from barely a competitor to a GNAC powerhouse, and I am grateful that I was able to leave behind more than just numbers and records. I have grown as an individual as well. The mentoring of teammates along the way has guided in the right direction for my future, as I hope to work for an organization that helps athletes develop and train to the best of their potential. My experience in sports has shown me that not everyone is given equal opportunity, but it is what you do outside of that opportunity that leads to your success.

I hope to be a part of the next generation of adults that can guide others towards that opportunity, as well as I am honored to be a nominee for this award.
