MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Joseph's College men's track & field team competed at the SNHU Spring Invitational on Thursday, highlighted by an event win in the high jump, another victory in the long jump, a DIII New England qualifying performance in the 400-meter hurdles, and solid production across the track, jumps, and throwing events.
The Monks were led by junior Matthew Corriveau, who won the long jump with a leap of 6.55m (21' 6"), and junior Antonio Junior, who claimed first place in the high jump after clearing 1.85m (6' 0.75"). Sophomore Isaac Keresey also turned in one of the top performances of the meet with a runner-up finish and DIII New England provisional qualifying time of 56.89 in the 400-meter hurdles. Senior Jacob Pelletier added a third-place finish in the invitational 5000 meters, crossing in 15:41.45, while junior Tudum Monday placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.08.
SPRINTS AND RELAYS
John Read paced the Monks in the short sprints with a 23.66 in the 200 meters to place 18th overall. In the 100 meters, sophomore Nico Vesprini led the Saint Joseph's group with a 12.33, while freshman Terrance Medina followed in 12.97 and freshman Brandt Bishop posted a 13.94. Senior Noah Batoosingh represented the Monks in the 400 meters and finished 12th in 55.95.
In relay action, the 4x100-meter team of Feeney, Read, Batoosingh, and Vesprini placed 4th overall in 44.84 to give Saint Joseph's one of its top finishes on the track.
MID-DISTANCE AND DISTANCE
Saint Joseph's saw a productive opening day in the middle-distance and distance events. Junior Emilson Zocolo and junior Harrison Fields finished back-to-back in the 800 meters, placing 13th and 14th in 2:15.26 and 2:15.31, respectively. Keresey added a strong 5th-place finish in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:09.79. In the invitational 5000 meters, Pelletier led the way with his third-place finish in 15:41.45, while senior Alexey Seredin followed in 16th with a time of 16:30.36.
HURDLES
Monday opened his outdoor season with a 5th-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.08, just shy of his school-record standard of 15.86. Keresey highlighted the long hurdle group with a runner-up finish and DIII New England provisional qualifying performance of 56.89 in the 400-meter hurdles, narrowly missing the school record of 56.69. Dalton Feeney also competed in the event and finished 7th in 1:04.24.
JUMPS
Junior Antonio delivered the Monks' top finish in the vertical jumps, winning the high jump after clearing 1.85m (6' 0.75"). In the horizontal jumps, Corriveau claimed the long jump title with a mark of 6.55m (21' 6"), continuing his strong run after setting the program record of 7.01m last spring. Junior Devonte Prom placed 15th at 5.72m (18' 9.25"), freshman Nick Munyaneza followed in 17th at 5.70m (18' 8.5"), junior Carl Peters was 20th at 5.46m (17' 11"), and freshman Patrick Murphy posted a mark of 4.28m (14' 0.5").
Munyaneza also turned in the Monks' top mark in the triple jump, placing 7th with a leap of 12.13m (39' 9.75").
THROWS
Freshman Cameron Gonyer led Saint Joseph's in both the discus and javelin, placing 11th in the discus at 33.10m (108' 7") and 7th in the javelin with a throw of 36.44m (119' 7"). Freshman Daven Duquette paced the Monks in the hammer throw with an 11th-place toss of 34.83m (114' 3"), while also adding a mark of 26.81m (87' 11") in the discus. Junior Gabryel Balch posted a discus throw of 24.62m (80' 9") and matched that mark in the hammer throw at 24.62m (80' 9").
In the shot put, senior Alexander Greslick led the way with a 12th-place effort of 10.38m (34' 0.75"), while Medina added an 8.93m (29' 3.75") toss. Sophomore Anthony Vasquez fouled in the shot put, but returned to throw 23.42m (76' 10") in the hammer. Benjamin added a javelin throw of 32.75m (107' 5"), and Bishop reached 25.59m (83' 11") in the event after also competing in the hammer throw.
